Projects

The goal is to progress.

Brown Girls Climb is actively engaged in improving the quality of climbing for others. From gym to crag, we strive to amplify women of color who are leading the way, and by doing so hope improve the experience of climbing for all people! Join us in our never-ending projects to create the most inclusive sport community.

AMGA Women’s SPI Course

“Together we know a lot.” This was the theme for the Single Pitch Instructor course we collaborated on and participated in this past weekend. Led by Elaina Arenz, Tracy Martin, and Erica Engle, the American Mountain Guides women’s Single Pitch Instructor course brought women from all over the country and a diverse range of experiences to learn and refine our ability to lead others outdoors. We are so proud to partner with AMGA, American Alpine Club, Hey Flash Foxy, Camber Outdoors, Jackson Hole Mountain Guides and REI to develop a course that prioritizes intentionality in its curriculum. Located in Red Rocks Conservation Area, this course was unique from any other. From the moment we arrived, we acknowledged each other, our differences and our likeness. We acknowledged our hesitations and our enthusiasm for navigating in a historically male culture. We gratefully and deliberately spent the weekend celebrating each other, our instructors’ contributions to paving the way, and the generations of Paiute people who have helped preserve and protect the land we climb on. We are the future of guiding. Our experiences and sensitivity to others will be voice that moves this field forward. We are excited to collectively move together in this effort and are grateful to all the individuals and organizations who will support along the way.

Color the Crag Climbing Festival

The Color the Crag Climbing Festival is a four day festival hosted by Brown Girls Climb and Brothers of Climbing which took place on October 20th-22nd in Horse Pens 40 Alabama Our mission is  to celebrate diversity in the sport of rock climbing and to increase access and exposure to historically marginalized communities by building relationships, encouraging leadership, and providing positive representation of climbing and physical activity among populations of color. Come join us!

2018 CTC

This year was bigger and better than ever! From a Bum Boy at Night to a live performance by Deqn Sue, we threw down in Alabama. Top it off with a silent disco, and this weekend was not to be forgotten.

2017 CTC

The first year of Color the Crag was unforgettable. We’ve never experienced a crag so colorful and full of life. Excited to see this festival continues to grow.
