DC/Maryland/Virginia Adopt-A-Crag with MidAtlantic Climbers

REGISTER HERE: https://bit.ly/2NdHs0y

Cunningham Falls State Park is one of Maryland’s most popular State Parks and is home to a handful of boulders that are great for budding outdoor climbers as well as a few test pieces for the more experienced. Join Mid Atlantic Climbers and Brown Girls Climb on April 27th, 2019 to help maintain the trails that are used by climbers and hikers alike!

This event will be a great opportunity for anyone who would like to learn more about the bouldering at Cunningham Falls. While MAC and BGC will not be providing climbing or bouldering instruction as part of the event, many friends (new and old) will stick around to climb afterward. If the weather turns wet, we’ll head into Frederick and check out the Boulder Yard.

Schedule:
Registration: 8:30
Project work: 9am-11:30am
Lunch and Raffle: 12pm
Afterward check out the boulders or hangout at The Boulder Yard: https://www.facebook.com/BoulderYardFrederickMD/

Where To Meet/How To Get There:
We will be meeting at the Cunningham Falls parking lot at the Cliff Trail trailhead on William Houck Dr.

What To Bring:
Closed toed shoes
Clothes you don’t mind getting dirty in
Water bottle
A snack
Work gloves (if you have them)

What We’ll be Doing:
We will be rerouting a small section of the Cliffs Trail due to the previous trail being overly eroded. This is a project we started last summer and is important to the park.

Native Outdoors: GWICHYAA ZHEE Film Screening

Just north of the Arctic Circle, the Gwich’in people are fighting to protect the lands and caribou from oil and gas development in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge—a place that has provided them with a rich and bountiful existence since time immemorial. Indigenous groups in southeastern Utah are doing much the same, seeking to defend their homeland and cultural heritage from energy and mining exploitation in Bears Ears National Monument. Join us for Welcome to Gwichyaa Zhee, a short film that explores the commonalities and differences between the two, and why the Gwich’in people need our support, followed by a Q&A with the film’s narrator Len Necefer and filmmaker Greg Balkin.

Prior to the film screening, join us for a nonprofit meet and greet—we’ll have several environmental nonprofits from the community in the store sharing about the work that they do and ways to get involved. Snacks and refreshments are both on the house at this free event.

Nonprofit Meet & Greet: 6:30 PM
Film: 7:30 PM
