History

Brown Girls Climb (BGC) was founded in November 2016 by Bethany Lebewitz as a way build community among rock climbers of color. BGC started as an online community of women and now meets monthly in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area.

BGC is created and managed by women of color who exist in outdoors spaces in different degrees. From researchers to outdoor educators, the leadership of BGC organize around the central idea that representation and opportunities matter.
